Revolutionizing the Education System |

The system is so broken it is hard to know where to start. Classrooms are really just a terrible idea. Lectures are an ancient artifact of a time when there were not enough books, but still they persist. The subject matter in high school is absurd at best. Every day another politician announces that they will ensure that the kids in their state know algebra, when you know very well that they themselves haven’t a clue about algebra. I started by building a new concept of education in masters degree programs at Carnegie Mellon’s West Coast Campus. Now I am trying to build a new kind of High School Curriculum, using the same methods that worked at CMU. The key issue is changing the subject matter. What is worth learning in High School? Not the subjects mandated by the President of Harvard in 1892! Even he wouldn’t agree with the current curriculum. But there are too many with vested interests trying to keep the same old one in place. I am trying to bypass the existing high school system since I can’t kill it. |

We are more likely to change education in countries other than the United States which, unfortunately, thinks it has a good education system. Here I am in Pakistan working with people there to improve education. My approach to education is taken seriously in Singapore as well. As well as Chile. |
